American Sign Language (ASL) is a full-fledged visual language, with complex morphological & grammatical structures equal to that of spoken languages. ASL is used by the Deaf community in North America and is the fastest-growing "foreign" language / LOTE studied in the US. Videos here are for new learners and for students to review ASL vocabulary and grammar. This is to complement (not substitute!) class lessons, including vocabulary, grammar, culture, & history. As always, the best way to really improve your skills is by interacting with native signers. Meredith is a certified instructor of ASL with an M.A. in Teaching ASL as a Foreign Language and B.A. in Linguistics with a focus on sign language. A published author in the Gallaudet University Press research journal "Sign Language Studies", she is hearing, & has ten years of experience teaching, tutoring, & offering private lessons in ASL.
