Shaykh Kamaluddin Ahmed is a qualified Islamic scholar and university academic in the field of Islamic studies, specializing in Quran, hadith, legal theory, intellectual history, spirituality, and religion & modernity. Born and raised in Manhattan, he earned degrees from University of Chicago and University of Oxford. He traveled and spent many years pursuing an intensive full-time study of the classical disciplines of Islamic learning and is formally certified as an ‘Alim (Islamic scholar) and Mufti, jurist authorized to transmit formal legal opinion. Electing not to take up the latter role, he chose instead to focus on general education and guidance. For the past 25 years, he has taught, lectured, and advised students and seekers on many topics of religious learning and purification of the heart.
